After seven highly-competitive classes of dairy steer were paraded through the show barn on Wednesday, the top five awards were distributed among four proud Auglaize County 4-Hers.
13-year-old Max Homan, of the New Bremen Buckeye Hustlers 4-H club, earned the Grand Champion trophy. Homan said he was showing dairy steer for only his second year, and he reportedly claimed 3rd place overall his first year at the 2015 Auglaize County Fair.
Another young showman, 12-year-old Carter Piehl, was awarded the Reserve Grand Champion trophy on Wednesday. Piehl said he has competed for the past four years in the dairy steer division, and is apparently no stranger to success. He has finished as one of the top two contestants since the beginning, he said. He is a member of the New Knoxville Livestock Boosters 4-H club.
Winning both 4th and 5th place overall (with two separate steers) was Austin Albers, who is also a member of the New Knoxville Livestock Boosters 4-H club.
