Despite overcast skies and the threat of thunderstorms, this year's Wapakoneta Noon Optimist Club Carnival at the WaterPark was a success.
Just 15 minutes after the event kicked off, crowds of children were already formed around carnival games, which were set up inside the fence at the Wapakoneta WaterPark.
"We're pleasantly surprised," said Connie Krites, chair of the youth and community service committee. "People are checking Facebook and they've been calling the pool because they know there's a carnival today, so a lot of people are still excited about knowing that we're having it. We're real pleased so far."
Games featured included plinko, mini basketball, whiffle ball toss, fishing for sharks and more. Summer Moon Festival Pageant contestants were on hand to help out with games and activities. Kids were provided with free bottled water, pretzels and orange drink from McDonalds.
"We decided we were just going to wait it out," Krites said. "It stopped, and I don't think we really have to worry about it. I think we'll be fine until 4."
Krites' prediction was correct, as the rain never came.
