The county is seeking to fill a new assistant position with the Auglaize County Fairgrounds that will eventually culminate into the position of fairgrounds manager.

Current manager Fred Piehl has been in the position of manager for 25 years, and after training the new candidate, he will be stepping down.

The new assistant will be learning the ropes from Piehl about how to run and manage the fairgrounds year-round, including handling rentals throughout the year. After about 12 months or so of training — and through at least one to two fairs — the assistant will take over for him as regular manager, he said.

The new candidate will work closely with the Auglaize County Agricultural Society, more commonly known as the fair board, as the position of secretary of the fair board goes along with being fairgrounds manager.

The new position is expected to be filled within the next month or two, Piehl said. Anyone interested in the new position is asked to send a resume in to Ed Doenges, president of the fair board, via email at doenges@watchtv.net. For questions, they can contact Piehl at the fairgrounds office or contact Doenges at 419-305-5681.
