A few Wapakoneta High School Class of 2016 graduates came together Wednesday to be honored as Wapakoneta Noon Optimist scholarship and essay winners.

Scholarship winners are chosen based on the amount of activities they partake in, as well as how active they are within those activities, said Connie Chinn, scholarship and essay chair.

Receiving the four $500 scholarships were Katelyn Lochard, Emily Klopfenstein, Brianna Pequignot and Alexandra Gesler.

In their essays, winners used past experiences in their various activities to discuss leading by example. The winners read their essays and gave some information about themselves.

The first place essay winner was Brian Jacoby, the second place essay winner and recipient of $150 was Sierra Sammons, and the third place essay winner and recipient of $100 was Hope Gossard.
