A Wapakoneta man who turned himself in for his alleged involvement in a fatal hit-skip accident earlier this month was arraigned in Shelby County Common Pleas Court on Thursday.

Timothy J. Huelskamp, 51, appeared before Judge James Stevenson on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to one count of leaving the scene of an accident, a third-degree felony.

After turning himself in May 12 at the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Huelskamp was said to be “very distraught,” according to a crash report included in official documents in online court records. The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office then contacted the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, who then transported him to the Shelby County office to be questioned.

According to a news release, the accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. May 11 in the 10000 block of Sidney Freyburg Road near Anna. The investigation revealed that a female appeared to have struck a canine with her vehicle and had gotten out of her vehicle to render aid to the canine. She was then struck by a vehicle, the release indicated.

The female driver, identified as Katriz M. Dilworth, 38, of Maplewood, was then transported by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to the traffic crash report from the sheriff’s office, Dilworth was driving a 2002 Saturn Vue, which was parked illegally at the time of the accident. The vehicle had been parked in front of 10520 Sidney Freyburg Road facing southbound in the northbound lane.
