Wapakoneta VFW Post 8445 members made stops at area nursing homes and assisted living facilities Tuesday.

“It's for the veterans that live in the nursing homes,” Honor Guard Captain Ace Ambos said. “They don't get to go to Memorial Day parades or anything — most of them don't get to — so we thought we'd bring it to them. We just can't do it on Memorial Day because we're so busy with all the other parades and stuff, so we like to get them done a week before, that way they get to remember their fallen comrades, and it gives us a chance to honor them for their services.”

The group made stops at Auglaize Acres, Wapakoneta Manor, The Gardens at Wapakoneta, Cridersville Healthcare Center and Otterbein Cridersville. Stops included the lowering and changing out of the American flag, a 21- Gun Salute and the playing of taps.
