Work on school safety levy continues

The Wapakoneta Board of Education met for a fairly routine meeting on Tuesday night, but Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Aaron Rex did give a small update on the status of the School Safety and Security levy that the district intends to put up to a community-wide vote.

The proposed levy, set at 1 Mil–one dollar per $1,000 of assessed property value–would raise $400,000 for the district to implement a number of safety and security measures.

With those additional funds, the district would hire three school resource officers, a mental health counselor, and upgrades to safety and security infrastructure.

In terms of an individual taxpayer, the levy would cost $35 a year per $100,000 of value on their home.

During Tuesday's meeting, Rex said that the district is currently working on a timeline and determining costs of the desired changes.
