Students packed the halls of the Wapakoneta City Schools for the first day of the 2018-2019 school year on Wednesday, and they were joined by a new, but familiar face.
Superintendent Aaron Rex participated in his first, first day of school as the leader of the district that gave him his start as a teacher in 1997, before he left the district to take the superintendent position at Archbold Local Schools in 2013.
Like most of the students in the district, he was off to a quick start, and by mid-day on Wednesday, he was already in the process of getting reacquainted with the district he again calls home.
"It's been going really well so far, and I've been able to visit all of the buildings today," Rex said. "We're getting positive reports from all the building administrators, and I've been taking tours across the district."
"I've been going into classrooms and the teachers have been making it very interactive," he continued, "seeing syllabi and things like that. There are so many varied things going on across the district."
