It was two hours and 15 minutes of trash talk — some of it polite, some of it contentious, some of it new, some of it repetitive — and at the end of the meeting summed up pretty well when Terry Campbell said, “this certainly isn’t over.”
A couple dozen city residents attended Wapakoneta City Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday to continue the discussion on the future of the city’s refuse and recycling department. On the table is a bid to outsource the service, which would dissolve residential collection and the bag system as well as the current recycling program. Under consideration is the bid from Wright Refuse of Lima; owner Aaron Wright was in the audience as requested by councilman Rod Metz during a previous discussion, as was Scott Cisco with Auglaize County’s Solid Waste District.
Mary Agnes Fisher of Stinebaugh Drive started the discussion, saying “I say keep the garbage the way it is.” Fisher is not a fan of the 96-gallon totes proposed as residential “garbage cans” and said, “I think we’ve got a nice, clean town doing it the way we’re doing it.”
