Fresh produce is a mainstay for Jolly's Greenhouse

It would be hard to find fresher produce than what's crowding the shelves at Jolly's Greenhouse and Produce.

It was so fresh on Wednesday, in fact, that John Jolly, who owns the Wapakoneta farm stand with his wife Susan, picked up a load of sweet corn from his supplier–already on the shelves–in Indian Lake that morning.

The day before, Jolly was picking up cantaloupes from an Amish farmer in Berne, Indiana.

And the cucumbers across the aisle? They were grown just an hour away in Urbana.

Along with all of the local produce, Jolly rattled off the source of every item in the store.

Peaches from South Carolina, tomatoes from Tennessee, cherries from Washington.

Jolly–and his customers–know where everything comes from.

That's a rarity these days, he says.

"[Customers] know more about what they're getting here," Jolly said. "They have a much better idea of where it's coming from when you talk to someone like me than you do when you go to the grocery store."
