Pratt Industries, the newest occupant in Wapakoneta’s Job Ready Site, is living up to its mission — to be the best vertically-integrated paper, packaging and resource recovery company in the Western Hemisphere — with plans to lease the former Gateway Packaging facility on Industrial Drive and convert it to a drop and bale facility to feed the new paper mill now under construction on County Road 25A.
In order to use the facility for that purpose, Wapakoneta’s Planning Commission will meet Monday to hear the request for a conditional use for that building.
Wapakoneta Economic Development Director Greg Myers said the Industrial Drive park is not zoned for the drop and bale operation, but recycling is a conditional use listed in the zoning code. The industrial park is zoned an M-1 Industrial District, according the city’s Zoning Code, which was updated in 2009. Conditional uses under the commercial list include “resource recovery, recycling facilities.”
