City to start keeping track of donations

Wapakoneta officials believe it’s time to start tracking the donated services provided by various city departments.

On the heels of the Summer Moon Festival, where a number of city departments provided goods and services at no cost to festival organizers, Mayor Tom Stinebaugh asked city council’s utility committee members to consider logging those services.

“I’m all for helping out,” the mayor said. “I’m not saying we should charge. But I do think we should monitor (the donated city services) and look at what that donation is.”

Stinebaugh has heard from department heads who have commented those services are an expense for the individual departments and there’s no line item within their budgets to funnel the cost of providing the donation. Stinebaugh brought the concern to Monday’s Wapakoneta City Council Utility Committee meting.
