Wapakoneta City Council didn’t do much Monday night, although members did tentatively agree to meet as a committee of the whole Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Councilor Rod Metz called for the special session to discuss the possibility of outsourcing refuse and recycling collection in light of the three separate bids received by area companies. Refuse and recycling has been in the spotlight for months, dating back to a citizen complaint last year about the cost of the city’s trash bags. No consensus was determined after various discussions; in February city officials surveyed residents to determine local sentiment about the collection procedure. Also part of the discussions were the aging equipment used by the refuse department, the lack of a plan to replace said equipment, and the closure of the Saturday recycling drop-off, a decision fueled by a lack of volunteer groups to work those Saturday hours.
