A fatal accident at the Arrowhead Lake Venture Out Resorts, located at the intersection of Wapakoneta-Fisher and Cemetery roads remains under invetigation by the Ohio Highway Patrol.
A preliminary report, shared on the scene by Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon noted an unidentified driver was westbound on Wapak-Fisher Road when the vehicle he was driving crashed through the fence around the resort facility. The vehicle continued onto the property and crashed into the pond where it was quickly submerged.
Solomon said a witness statement indicated the driver's head was down during the incident, but no further information was available.
Solomon said his office was assisting the OHP. Officers from both of those departments, as well as Wapakoneta EMS and fire department personnel entered the water to attempt to retrieve the vehicle. Law enforcement personnel requested no photographs be taken during the removal of the vehicle from the water.
A dispatcher confirmed the incident was a fatality; the county coronor had been called to the scene. The investigation into the accident continued at press time; the dispatcher anticipated OHP officials would issue a press release once the invetigation is more complete.
