Prayer brings local faiths together

Rain may have pushed the event inside, but even that couldn't dampen spirits on Thursday as residents of Auglaize County gathered together for the National Day of Prayer at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta.

Originally planned to be held outside the Wapakoneta Fire Station, representatives from the Greater Wapakoneta Area Ministerial Association recognized the nationally observed day with a service to pray for the community and the nation.

The National Day of Prayer is held every year on the first Thursday of May. President Harry S. Truman signed the law into effect in 1952 establishing the annual event, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation.

And at St. Paul on Thursday, members from all faiths and denominations were present, as representatives from many local ministries led the group in prayer for different facets of the community.
