Classes in session after threat evacuates high school

Wapakoneta High School classes resumed today as normally as they could a day after the building was evacuated and students sent home as a precaution to a threat.

“We did have extra police presence this morning,” Wapakoneta City Schools Director of Operations Mike Watt said on Friday morning, “and other administrators that were able to come over. We didn't deplete anyone from any building, but we brought people who were more district oriented to help get kids in their classrooms, books out of the cafeteria that were left, and so forth."

School district officials, along with officers from the Wapakoneta Police Department are saying little else about that threat, other than the incident remains under investigation.

According to the information shared via the district’s Facebook page, a note was found at Wapakoneta High School Thursday of a threatening nature. Based upon that threat and working with local law enforcement, officials opted to evacuate the building.

“We just follow the policy in place,” Watt said. “We try to make sure we get everyone evacuated and taken care of.”
