Eric Shade, a lifelong resident of Wapakoneta, is in the midst of a battle with Stage IV colon and liver cancer, and this weekend community members will have the chance to show their support–in more ways than one.
Two separate fundraisers have been organized in the next week to help pay for Shade's living expenses and medical bills.
Shade has been unable to work while he undergoes chemotherapy treatments.
Shade's sister-in-law, Jamonah Nazario, who helped organize the fundraisers, says the family has helped Shade get to this point, but need additional support going forward.
"Eric has been battling cancer for about a year," Nazario said. "The family, of course, has been very supportive, but funds have been depleted."
"We thought we'd reach out to the community," she added.
Their first attempt takes place on Sunday, May 6 at the Moon City Event Center in Wapakoneta, with a Benefit Night full of fun activities and opportunities to donate to Shade's cause.
The highlight of the night is a cornhole tournament. Teams can enter the tournament by paying a $20 entry fee.
