There are only a few more steps to go before this journey comes to an end, and when it’s all said and done, it’s been a good one.
The Wapakoneta Family YMCA’s capital campaign passed its $2.5 million goal and is just at $2.62 million with less than a week to go in the public campaign.
“That’s not to say we’ll stop accepting pledges,” said Josh Little, CEO of the local Y.
The community campaign that kicked off last month added a little over $200,000 to the bottom line, Little said, with $45,000 of that coming in over the last two weeks.
“That’s an amazing number; I wasn’t expecting that,” Little said.
Little, along with Y officials and representatives of the architectural firm and general contractors will spend the next several weeks finishing the design for the additional space and improvements, working toward a groundbreaking date sometime in August. The team will have to finalize costs to see what the additional funds – what came in over the $2.5 million – will be able to purchase.
Little said he’s pretty committed to making the splash pad a reality, as there was a lot of interest generated in that amenity, as well as air conditioning the gymnasium.
“We have folks playing pickle ball there in the mornings and running and jogging so (the air conditioning) will make a difference to that space,” he said.
