It's a three way race for Ohio's State Senate District 1 Republican Primary, leaving Wapakoneta's representation in Columbus up for grabs.
Sen. Rob McColley, R-Napoleon, Bob Barker Jr., R-Van Wert, and Craig Kupferberg, R-Findaly, are all vying for a chance to take on Adam Papin, D-Bryan, who is unopposed in the Democratic primary, in the November general election.
The contest comes after former senator Cliff Hite's resignation last October, following complaints of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior directed toward a female state employee.
McColley, the former Representative for the 81st House District, was sworn in as his replacement in December, and currently serves the 1st Senate District in the statehouse.
He is seeking to be elected to the seat for the first time, where he would continue to represent Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert, and Williams counties, as well as parts of Auglaize, Fulton, and Logan counties.
But the NRA endorsed incumbent faces a challenge from two self-branded political outsiders.
