Sportscaster chronicles his career

Mike Schepp has rubbed elbows with the likes of Ben Rothlisberger, Mike Pruitt, Rick Patino and LeBron James, thanks to a part-time gig on a small-town radio station, a job taken because he was promised he’d get some air time broadcasting high school basketball a couple of months down the line.

That job at WDOH in Delphos, which Schepp began in the summer of 1979 led to a job with Centel Cable doing play-by-play for tape-delayed broadcasts of high school football and basketball games. He was recruited by WTLW a couple of years later and it took one game on that station for Schepp to start his run as the voice of TV44 sports.

Schepp also lists Wapakoneta High School English teacher among his credits and has authored “Game Night; My Career in Sportscasting,” published in 2016. On Monday, he told Wapakoneta Rotarians a little bit about his almost 35-year run broadcasting high school athletics in this part of northwestern Ohio.
