About three years ago, CEO Josh Little and the rest of the Wapakoneta YMCA hatched a plan for the future of the YMCA. On Monday, they unveiled that plan to the public.
In the three years since that meeting, with collaboration from Mercy Health, Head Start, and a few local businesses, the Y put together a blueprint for a $2.7 million project that will tack on 24,000 square feet of new and expanded offerings.
The extensive upgrades will include new wellness rooms, multipurpose space, an indoor playground, a new child watch facility, family lockers, a climbing wall, a café and food options from local businesses Coffé Amor and Nourish u, Head Start classrooms, expanded and upgraded facilities for Mercy Health’s current operation at the YMCA, and much more.
As of Monday, $2.4 million of the $2.7 million goal has been raised to bring the Garmann-Miller Architects and Engineers-designed plans to life.
The remaining $300,000 needed for the project, the YMCA hopes, will be brought in by May 1.
