Failure to appear, positive test, drive up cost of bond

Garrett Michael Lee Devall, 21, of St. Marys, was charged with possession of drugs, a fifth degree felony, for an offense that occurred on Oct. 31.

The court entered not guilty pleas on his behalf. The defendant was ordered to post an own recognizance bond. A pretrial hearing was held Jan. 17. A second pretrial was set for 10:30 a.m. Jan. 31, however, the defendant failed to appear. A bench warrant was issued and the defendant was arrested Jan. 31 and appeared before the court on Feb. 1.

Court records state the defendant tested positive for methamphetamines when he appeared in court. The defendant was ordered to post $100,000 cash or surety with 10 percent privilege plus an own recognizance bond. Bond was modified on Feb. 2 with the defendant ordered to post a $25,000 cash or surety with 10 percent privilege plus an own recognizance bond.
