Local agencies deal with homelessness

There’s been a lot of press on the homeless population in the United States as of late, the lion’s share of the focus on the west coast, where housing costs are on the rise and wages are stagnant.

Outlets like the New York Times, the Guardian, and the Washington Post have sent back harrowing stories and images of people in desperate situations, forced to live and make do in the streets, be it from simply falling upon hard times, coping with mental illness, addiction, or any of many other valid reasons.

In fact, it’s become such a problem, that for the first time since the Great Recession, homelessness is on the rise according to a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) report put out in December of last year.
