Discussions were heated, and a petition submitted, but in the end the village council voted to put the sale of the former school out to bid.
Before opening the meeting, Mayor Tim Detty reminded those in attendance of the rules of conduct for council meetings.
Visitors who wish to speak will raise their hand to be recognized, then step up to the podium, state their name and address and proceed with their topic.
“Any talking among yourselves anytime you’re not supposed to be, you’ll be asked to leave,” Detty explained. “We’re going to conduct ourselves in a proper manner.”
Following a discussion on safety issues, former councilman Lonnie John addressed council and reminded them that they represent the entire village. With that, John stated that he and former mayor Dan Lambert canvassed the residents around the former school and reported that the majority prefer the school be torn down and the playground and basketball hoops behind it remain where they are.
Debate arose about the condition of the basketball courts and how they could be sealed and continue to be used.
Following the discussion, council passed the resolution authorizing the sale of the former school and the move of the playground equipment.
