Ten-year-old Tyler Egbert from Botkins Local School turned months of hard work into cash Saturday morning when his Grand Champion Beef Steer sold for $12,500 during the Auglaize County Fair Livestock sale.

Egbert led his black and white steer around the arena as the bids kept coming in. When asked what was going through his mind during all of this, he replied “I was just happy.”

Egbert has been raising the steer that sold Saturday afternoon for 11 months. For him, raising steers is a family affair.

Egbert is a member of Fryburg Happy Farmers. His parents are Brian and Terri Egbert.

See Monday's paper for the full story on the livestock sale.
