Wapakoneta resident Joe Monbeck shared his experience in Philadelphia among the events of the Democratic National Convention this week.

Monbeck spent the whole week in Philadelphia, with the main intent of supporting Bernie Sanders and the Democratic party. He is not a voting delegate but has rather focused his efforts on marches and a counter-protest. Monbeck is a member of the Auglaize County Democratic Central Committee and the secretary of its executive committee.

As a member of a local group called West Central Ohio for Bernie Sanders, Monbeck spent much of his day Monday participating in two marches “demanding the DNC listen to Bernie Sanders’ supporters,” he said.

Participating in the march on Broad Street Monday among 7,000 other people has been the biggest highlight of his experience so far, he noted. He also said his experience has been pleasant and exciting.

Security has been ever-present, he said, and law enforcement has been very accommodating and friendly to all the city’s visitors.
