The Wapakoneta Board of Zoning Appeals met Monday evening with one item on the agenda: zoning variances for Golden Fresh Farms. The items had been tabled at the previous meeting, pending more information from the company.
The zoning board had three items to consider regarding the Golden Fresh Farms project: an increase in size of a water tank, an increase in size for a warehouse and permission to construct a multi-unit housing facility for migrant workers.
The last one ruffled some feathers.
GFF co-owner Louis Chibante spoke on behalf of the company and explained that the structure they are proposing will be state-of-the-art. He also reassured those in attendance that the migrant workforce would amount to about 40 people, at least until local workers have been trained.
Following an hour of hearing arguments on both sides of the issue, the board approved the variances unanimously.
