The Summer Moon Festival returns to the area on Thursday and will go on until Sunday, July 17, with many classic attractions returning but with plenty of new stuff for people to check out.
According to the Nan Schneider, the executive director of the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, this year’s Festival will include some very exciting VIPs. Cleveland-born astronaut Don Thomas, who took part in four different space flight missions, and Frogman Mike Mallory, who assisted Neil Armstrong out of the Apollo 11 capsule when it landed in the Pacific Ocean, will be present.
Among some of the new attractions this year include, from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday will be the Moon City Boat safety, taught by officials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
There will also be many returning favorites of previous years, including the Run to the Moon which starts at 7 a.m. on Saturday, the Bed Races which takes place at 7 p.m. on Perry Street on Thursday, and at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday will be the Wiener Dog Races.
