Board of Elections Director Michelle Wilcox is giving a voice to Auglaize County through her work on a state committee which discusses and affects proposed bills regarding election operations and voter rights.
Wilcox, who has been county director for three years, was first appointed to the Ohio Association of Election Officials (OAEO) legislative committee last fall. OAEO is a bi-partisan organization whose membership includes board of elections members and directors throughout the state.
As part of the legislative committee, Wilcox works monthly with the others on the committee to discuss and give input on bills relating to elections and voter rights. The committee is comprised of 20 Democratic representatives, including Wilcox, and 20 Republican representatives. She is one of six county board of elections directors on the committee.
Recently, Wilcox received word that one of the bills that the OAEO legislative committee has been working on getting passed for years was finally signed into law by the governor Monday. Effective Jan. 1, 2017, all Ohio voters will be able to register online, instead of having to register through paperwork.
