In a news release, Sheriff Solomon gave an update Wednesday morning on the standoff near Minster Tuesday afternoon. Deputies, Detectives, Special Response Team members, Minster Fire Department and the Allen County Bomb Squad remained at the scene last night into the late evening searching the residence and outbuildings for explosives and weapons.
A handgun and knives were located along with several items that had been made to appear to be explosives. There were no actual explosives found.
The handgun is believed to be the same weapon that the suicidal male held to his chin at the time deputies arrived. The juvenile who was removed from the residence was still inside while the suicidal male made the gesture with the weapon.
The suspect was transported from the scene to the hospital by Minster Area Life Squad. The investigation continues.
Sheriff Solomon commented, "We have great employees as do the other agencies, and all did a great job with a tough situation. We train and sometimes question the amount of training but the result here is the benefit of great people and proper training.”
