With the ramp up to the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing and the 2019 Summer Moon Festival well underway, one community-oriented activity is taking a different look at the 'Space Race.'
Starting January 1, members of the Wapakoneta–and Auglaize County–community will kick off their community read of 'The Astronaut Wives Club,' by Lily Koppel.
The book, which was published in 2013, is a non-fiction account of the lives of the wives of astronauts in NASA's Mercury program of the early 1960s.
"It's a different angle look into the Space Race by looking at home life and the wives and how these early space missions affected them in terms of stress and the danger that their husbands were facing," Andrea Burton, adult services coordinator at the Auglaize County Libraries and 2019 committee member, said.
