Budget hearing season

As budget hearings in Auglaize County continue, county commissioners heard not much has changed for the Juvenile Court — aside from 3 percent increases build into handle workers comp costs. The Juvenile Probation department is asking for a 3 percent increase for detention, which officials consider a small increase.

“You still have kids that want to go huh,” Commissioner Doug Spencer said lightheartedly to Judge Mark Spees about detention.

“Well sure, a lot of them line up at the door,” Spees said sarcastically.

Spencer asked about trends in marriage licenses.

“I guess there is a bit of an increase you saw due to same sex marriages,” Spees said. “I think there was an initial bump; we might get one or two (same sex marriages) a year,” he said, indicating that the number of marriages overall is relatively stable.
