Auglaize County registered voters will head to their polling places Nov. 6 and will face a full ballot of state-wide and local issues. While local issues can vary depending on school districts and township borders, the state wide candidates and issues start our roundup of what you will see on your ballot:
Governor and Lt. Governor
* Richard Cordray and Betty Sutton (D)
Cordray is from Grove City, and has previous experience running for the Ohio House of Representatives in the early 1990s. He was on the Ohio Democratic central committee, and has experience as treasurer for Franklin County and the state. In addition, he has served as attorney general. Most recently he was director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
* Mike DeWine and Jon Husted (R)
DeWine is from Springfield and has served as Ohio's attorney general since 2011. He was a state senator in 1981-82, and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 1991. He served as Gov. George Voinovich lieutenant governor for four years and from 1995 to 2007 was a member of the U.S. Senate.
* Constance Gadell-Newton and Brett R. Joseph (G)
Gadell grew up in Columbus, and has experience running as a candidate in 2016 for District 18’s seat in the Ohio's House of Representatives.
* Travis M. Irvine and J. Todd Grayson (L)
This year marks Irvine's first time campaigning. He has experience working as a film maker and a journalist.
Attorney General
*Steve Dettelbach (D)
Dettelbach is an Ohio native and has worked as a prosecutor for the Department of Justice Civil Rights division and the Northern Ohio Organized Crime and Corruption Task Force. In 2009 he was appointed U.S. District Attorney for northern Ohio. He stepped down in 2016 to work in the private sector.
* Dave Yost (R)
Yost has been the Ohio Auditor since 2011, having won re-election in 2014; he previously worked as Delaware County Auditor from 1993 to 2003.
Auditor of State
* Robert C. Coogan (L)
Coogan has previously run as a Libertarian candidate in 2012 for District 52 Ohio House of Representatives. He worked for The Health Collaborative and brings accounting and auditing experience from his 32 years at Cincinnati Bell.
* Keith Faber (R)
Faber is a Celina native and currently an Ohio Representative for the 84th District. He has spent eight years in the Ohio Senate. He served as president of the Ohio Senate from 2013 to 2016.
* Zack Space (D)
Space is originally from Dover and served two terms from 2006 to 2010 as a U.S. Representative from the 18th Congressional District.
Secretary of State
* Kathleen Clyde (D)
Clyde has been a member of the Ohio House of Representatives since 2011 for District 75. She is not eligible for relection to the House of Representatives due to term limits.
* Frank LaRose (R)
LaRose has been a member of the Ohio Senate since 2011 for District 27. He is ineligible for re-election to the Ohio Senate due to term limits.
* Dustin R. Nanna (L)
Nanna is currently the Vice Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Ohio. Last year he ran unsucessfully for a seat Delaware City Council and currently sits on the Steering Committee for Delaware. Nanna has worked as a personal care professional with developmentally disabled at Reflektions LTD.
Treasurer of State
* Rob Richardson (D)
Richardson has served as a trustee of the University of Cincinnati since 2008 and became board chair in 2016. He has worked as a marketing construction representative and provided counsel to a law firm.
* Robert Sprague (R)
Sprague has served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives since 2011 for District 83. He has previous experience as Findlay’s treasurer and auditor.
Voters will be asked to send representatives to Washington D.C. for both the senate and the house. Candidates are:
US. Senator
* Sherrod Brown (D)
Brown is from Mansfield originally and currently lives in Cleveland. He is currently a member of the U.S. Senate and has been serving since 2007. He has also served two terms as Ohio's Secretary of State and been a member of the Ohio House of Representatives in form 1975 to 1983.
* Jim Renacci (R)
Renacci, originally born in Monogahela, PA is the incumbent U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 16th district and has served in the House since 2011. He was mayor of Wadsworth from 2004 to 2008 and prior to that served as the Wadsworth Council president.
Fourth Congressional District
* Janet Garrett (D-Oberlin)
Garrett is a retired teacher and union leader from Oberlin and has previously run against Jordan the past two elections for Ohio's 4th Congressional District.
*Jim Jordan (R-Urbana)
Jordan is from rural Champaign County and is an incumbent representative who has been serving as the 4th district representative since 2006.
First District, Ohio Senate
* Robert McColley (R-Napolean)
McColley from Napolean, is the incumbent senator for the district having been appointed to the senate in December. McColley has previous experience in the Ohio House of Representatives District 81 from 2014 until his appointment to the Senate.
* Adam Papin (D-Bryan)
Papin is a self described progressive from Bryan, campaigning on traditional American values.
84th District, Ohio House of Representatives
* Joseph Monbeck (D-Celina)
Originally from Celina, Monbeck has worked as an advertising consultant and sales team member for the County Classifieds in Bellefontaine.
* Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield)
A Waynesfield native with a background in psychology and political science, Manchester has worked for Congressman Jim Jordan since 2011. Manchester also has experience working with a Venezuelan University through Campus Crusade for Christ.
82nd District, Ohio House of Representatives
* Craig S. Riedel (R-Defiance)
Reidel is the incumbent for the district, having started his term in 2016. Prior to politics, Reidel worked in civil engineering with Nucor Vulcraft Group for 27 years.
* Aden Wyatt Baker (D-Paulding)
Baker, a lifelong 18-year-old resident of Paulding County, is campaigning with limited experience. He has gained the endorsement of the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police for his position on collective bargaining.
Auglaize County Commissioner
* Douglas A. Spencer (R-St. Marys)
Spencer is running unopposed after defeating St. Marys Mayor Pat McGowan for the primary. This will mark his fourth term as commissioner.
County Auditor
* Janet Schuler (D-Wapakoneta)
Schuler has served as auditor since 2010 and won re-election in 2014. She has served as the chairwoman of the property tax and valuation committee for the County Auditor’s Association of Ohio.
Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court
* Craig Baldwin (R)
Baldwin is originally from Newark and has served as a Domestic Relations Judge for the Fifth District Court of Appeals since 2013, having been reelected in 2016. Baldwin also has experience serving in Licking County’s Common Pleas Court and has worked nine years as a lawyer.
* Michael P. Donnelly (D)
Donnelly began his career in 1992 in Cuyahoga County, working as an assistant prosecutor. He has served as private practice attorney for seven years. He has been a Common Pleas Judge for Cuyahoga County since 2004.
Justice of the Supreme Court
* Mary DeGenaro (R)
DeGenaro is a Cleveland native and has also lived in Youngstown while getting her education. She is the incumbent justice of the Ohio Supreme Court after being appointed in 2018. She previously served as a Judge for the Seventh District Court of Appeals for 18 years.
* Melody J. Stewart (D)
Stewart also grew up in Cleveland has been on the Ohio Court of appeals Eighth District for 11 years. She has 30 years of overall legal experience, having started out teaching at various law schools.
Third District Court of Appeals
* John R. Willamowski (R)
Willamowski is running unopposed once again. He has served since 2006 as an Appellate Judge. Previously, he served five terms in the Ohio House of Representatives and has 21 years of experience as a private practice lawyer.
Issue 1
Issue 1 proposes to add a new Section 12 to Article XV of the Constitution of the State of Ohio to reduce penalties for crimes of obtaining, possessing, and using illegal drugs; this issue is a proposed constitutional amendment. A majority yes vote is necessary for passage.
Proposed Tax Levy (Renewal) For the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board
A renewal of a tax for the benefit of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin Counties to continue operations. A majority yes vote is necessary for passage of the renewal.
Income Tax for St. Marys City School District (additional)
Whether to impose an annual income tax of 1% on residents of St. Marys City School District, for a period of five years, beginning January 1, 2019, to keep up with current operating expenses of the school district. A majority yes vote is required for passage.
Jackson Township (additional Tax)
An additional tax for the benefit of the unincorporated portion of Jackson Township for providing and maintaining fire apparatus, mechanical resuscitators, underwater rescue and recovery equipment, or other fire equipment and appliances, buildings, or sites, or sources of water supply and materials. The proposed tax rate is 3 mills per $1 of valuation, which amounts to $0.30 for each $100 of valuation, for a period of 3 years, commencing in calendar year 2018, first due in calendar year 2019. A majority yes for is required for passage.
