Pancake sales benefit local scholarships

The Wapakoneta Rotary Club will be awfully busy trying to butter you up on Thursday, but for good reason.

For the 57th straight year, the group will be hosting their annual Scholarship Pancake Day at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 612 N. Dixie Hwy., raising money for scholarships that will ultimately be awarded to Wapakoneta High School graduates, a popular tradition that Rotarian and former Pancake Day chair Randy Fisher says everyone can count on.

"It's a Wapakoneta tradition and you can count on it that the first weekend of October will be Pancake Day," Fisher said. "It's just been one of those things that people latch onto every year and it brings everyone in the community together for one meal."

And that includes the 33 Rotarians themselves, who all put in long shifts to make sure the tradition continues.

"We're all people dedicated to service above self," Fisher said. "This is the one event where every member comes out to help."

"To serve pancakes for 12 straight hours," he continued, "it takes a lot of hard work and it's always all hands on deck."
