Orange light district organizers are adding something new to tradition

Every couple of years Wapakoneta residents are reminded they live in an “Orange Light District” and this year is no exception.

Wapakoneta Antique and Specialty Shops members are urging local residents to adorn their properties with orange lights to celebrate Halloween. The orange lights are a relatively new practice that helps celebrate one of Wapakoneta’s longest-standing traditions.

The orange lights district, said Lynn Skaggs, has been organized for years by WASS, and this year the group is adding a contest aspect to the displays.

“We’re partnering with the Wapakoneta Daily News to showcase the outstanding Halloween displays in the community,” Skaggs said. “We’re looking for the brightest — or cutest, scariest and most unique displays, and we’re asking the community to vote on their favorites.”
