WHS locks down after report; Botkins school officials react to two incidents

Wapakoneta City Schools were on a soft lockdown Wednesday, as a precaution due to events on the east side of town, according to Superintendent Aaron Rex said.

The action was taken after after police were notified of a 15-year-old male who left his residence with a rifle. A Wapakoneta Police Department spokesman said the rifle could be an air-soft rifle and that no threats were made.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, police were still looking for the subject, who is classified as "missing juvenile, with caution."

No name has been released. The police report indicated the subject was wearing a black shirt, jeans, black boots and an olive green backpack. He was described as being 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing about 300 pounds. He has brown hair; itis not known if the subject is a high school student.
