The 2019 Committee announces the that the August Monday Moon Movie will be “Hidden Figures,” which will be screened on Monday, August 13, 4:30 pm, at the Wapa Theatre, Willipie Street, Wapakoneta. The screening is open to the public; the theatre's concession stand will be open for purchases during the film.

"Hidden Figures" reveals the incredible untold story of Katherine Jonson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) – brilliant African-American women working at NASA who were the brains behind the launch into John Glenn's launch into orbit, a stunning achievement that turned around the Space Race. The visionary trio crossed all gender and racial lines and inspired generations.

“Hidden Figures” is the second in a series of movie screenings that the 2019 Committee plans to present monthly on Mondays at the historic Wapa Theatre. Next month's film will be "Apollo 13," which stars Tom Hanks.

States Rachel Barber, “On behalf of all the members of the 2019 Committee, I extend our sincere appreciation to the management and owners of the Wapa Theatre for collaborating with us on these Monday Moon Movies. Space flight has captured the imagination of many artists, and 'Hidden Figures' is movie making at its best.”

The 2019 Committee's mission is to develop and implement public programs, events, and legacy efforts that reflect the many themes associated with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon walk, and to ensure that Wapakoneta and Auglaize County are at the forefront of this worldwide commemoration.
