Council Oks land purchase for substation

Adopting new legislation dominated the portion of Monday’s Wapakoneta City Council meeting that wasn’t taken up with the refuse and recycling discussion (reported in Tuesday’s Wapakoneta Daily News). Lawmakers adopted two related ordinances Monday, agreeing to purchase land in the Job Ready Site to place the new electrical substation.

Two parcels of land will be purchased — about 1.5 acres from VITA Holdings and about 7 acres from John Knueve — at the option cost of $25,000 per acre. The land in question is south of Short Road in Pusheta Township, north of Pratt Industries property.

Both councilmen Jim Neumeier and Chad Doll wondered where the $200,000 was coming from. Mayor Tom Stinebaugh said in the short-term the city’s electric department’s contingency fund could handle that payment while the intent is to roll the cost into the loan necessary to build the substation. Both ordinances were passed as an emergency; Denny Faller, the city’s attorney, said the immediate passage of the legislation allows him to start the necessary paper work related to the sale.
