Cridersville adds a bit of color to Jamboree lineup

The 54th Cridersville Fireman's Jamboree begins tomorrow and the weekend's schedule is jam-packed with loads of events, activities, and contests.

Friday night's events kick off, as they usually do, with the Classic Car Show, but Saturday morning will see a slight change from the past few years.

After eight years of hosting the Fire 5K Fire Run/Walk, the untimed race is taking on a new look, as will all of the participants by the time they've completed the 5,000 meters.

Saturday's race (registration begins at 8 a.m. and the run at 9 a.m.) will be the 1st Annual Cridersville Fireman's Jamboree Color Run.

In the Color Run, participants will be showered with colored corn starch along the route through the village, and, by the end of the race, will be covered in a rainbow of the bio-degradable powder.

"It's different than your traditional 5k," Chief of the Cridersville Fire Department Rick Miller said. "There will be three or four different stations where they throw color on you."

Along with the new addition, some of the Jamboree's classic events will be returning.

The Entertainment Tent will again be located behind the Firehouse on Main St. and will be housing two bands, "The Earthquakers" from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday night and "Brother Believe Me" from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday night.
