Dodgeballers battled for Botkins one last time on Saturday during the rain-shortened 10th Annual Battle for Botkins Dodgeball Tournament during Botkins Carousel weekend.
Originally organized by Botkins Athletic Boosters member Max Smith, the tournament sees teams of six battle for the crown in three different age groups, and brings some life to the Saturday morning Carousel events.
About 30 teams took part in the final year of the event at Cole Field on Saturday before it was brought to a premature end by rain and storms.
It was somewhat of a down ending for Smith, who hatched the idea over a few beers with some friends at Meyer's Tavern 10 years ago.
"Dodgeball just got blurted out," he said. "We bought enough wood to build one of those walls, just to see what would happen, and it actually worked."
"Then we bought a dodgeball," he continued, "and it just slowly progressed."
