Speeches highlight the Class of 2018 commencement services

Wapakoneta High School graduates earned more than $2.2 million in grants, awards and scholarships, and if those attending the ceremony Saturday didn’t know already that the high school recently earned its fourth consecutive Western Buckeye League All Sports Trophy they do now. The WBL honor was a recurring theme among the speakers, who also offered their advice to the Class of 2018.

Up first were the student speakers; the top five graduates were given the opportunity to address their classmates one last time.

Joey Metzger encouraged his classmates to keep their memories close and “whatever happens after today, make the most of it.”

Caleb Schlenker likened his high school experiences to the credits he earned. When he came to history, he said “In an hour our time at Wapakoneta High School will be history. We learn about history, so we don’t make the mistakes of the past.”
