Prep work is Chili Day's key to success

Wapakoneta got a heaping helping of chili on Thursday as the Wapakoneta Sertoma Club hosted their annual Chili Day Dinner for the 43rd consecutive year at the Knights of Columbus hall.

Over the course of the day-long event, the club served well over 1,000 cups of chili, drawing just about even with the success of last year's event.

And to make sure the day goes off without a hitch, it takes plenty of preparation.

"We start planning it about two months before," Chili Day Chairman and Sertoma Club member Jim Stinebaugh said. "About a week before we make sure we have a lot of people lined up to come out Wednesday night when we primarily pre-cook the chili, get the dinning room all set up, get the drive-thru set up, then it's just a matter of coming in Thursday with about a dozen people, start getting the chili heated back up, get everything in line. Then we wait for the customers to come."
