"If you can think of the Pitch Perfect movies, they're actually based off of something that's true in the a cappella world."
That's how Kathleen Pellington, Wapakoneta High School Choral Director and adviser for the school's a cappella group, Midweek, described their latest competition.
Last month, the group of high school students competed in the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA), a contest — straight out of the Pitch Perfect movies — that pits musical groups from all over the country against each other in a tournament style competition.
After having their video audition selected, Midweek got a chance to participate in their third straight Great Lakes Region Quarterfinals, having qualified each of the last two years.
