The Wapakoneta City Council held first reading of an ordinance Monday regarding electric rates.
In drafting the ordinance, the city drew from preliminary figures previously reported.
At a Dec. 6 joint meeting between the Finance and Utilities committees, John Courtney, with the public utilities consulting firm Courtney and Associates, recommended certain increases, which the committees adopted.
The increases are needed for the city to upgrade the system and make it more efficient and reliable.
Although the upgrade is not necessary for the upcoming arrival of Pratt Industries, the city's current power capacity will allow no redundancy should a problem arise. A new power station is needed to ensure the best possible service to the entire city.
