Mayor Rodney Metz reported to council on Monday that the Blackhoof Street bridge could be open as soon as the end of the week, weather permitting. With the possibility of showers midweek, however, the reopening could be as late as early next week.
Metz also reported that West Auglaize Street will reopen to traffic by Thanksgiving.
First Ward Councilman James Neumeier told council Monday that ODOT workers have stated that the 45-day delay following a concrete pour was incorrect.
“The problem was engineers at ODOT not talking to one another,” Metz said. “The 45-day rule comes out of a concern for weather and the possibility of snow and ice in this area after Oct. 15.” That snow and ice could lead to the application of salt, and salt water could adversely affect the curing.
Given the mild weather so far this year, the project can move forward.
