New electric rates proposed

The first half hour of Tuesday’s joint meeting of the Wapakoneta City Council’s Finance and Utilities Committees focused on electric rates. John Courtney, with the public utilities consulting firm Courtney and Associates, provided an overview on a proposed electric rate increase.

At a Dec. 6 joint meeting between the Finance and Utilities committees, Courtney asked for a recommendation on an increase in the customer charge, the flat monthly rate customers pay.

Committee members voted to recommend an increase of $4 per month for each of the next three years. That would mean the customer charge will increase to $6.50 in 2018, $10.50 in 2019 and $14.50 in 2020. The increase would probably begin in March or April, Courtney said.
