Elaine Poppe was named Citizen of the Year at Thursday night's Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce Community Awards Banquet.
Chamber Executive Directer Josh Hines presented the award. In his speech, he talked about Poppe's role in starting up Children's Hometown Holiday and all the work that goes into putting it on each year, including all the fundraising that must be done.
“It's through the gracious donations of many of you here that this happens,” she said. “It's through the time and effort that you also put into the community to make the downtown look extra special for children.”
Several other Community Awards were handed out during the evening. See Friday's print edition of the Wapakoneta Daily News for the full story.
