The Wapakoneta Woman’s Club is continuing its longstanding tradition of making a positive impact in the community through donations. The club has just donated $500 to the Wapakoneta City Schools’ nurses to help with handing out spare garments to children who have accidents or illnesses at school.
Woman's Club president Debbie McElroy also said the Woman’s Club has frequently donated clothing and supplies to Wapakoneta City Schools, which they also did this time in addition to the monetary donation.
“They had a need,” said McElroy about the school nurses. “They just had a need, and we thought we could fulfill it for them. And I think we’ve done that. I think we’ve given them a lot … (The school nurses) are always so grateful because a lot of times, it’s coming out of their own pocket.”
The Woman’s Club was first organized in January 1917 and has done many fundraisers and given many donations throughout the community. Some of the organizations the club has donated to include the YMCA, library, Mercy Unlimited, God’s Store House and the Crisis Center. The club also “adopts” a family each year for Christmas.
