A new fair activity will give children a glimpse into the world of agriculture.

Commodity Carnival, for the first time, will be at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds. This is a joint effort between the National 4-H Council and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group that allows children to learn about the business risks involved with producing and bringing livestock to market in a fun way, the carnival's website states.

This simulation involves each child filling an Easter egg with corn kernels and paper shreds from four different buckets. The buckets' contents symbolize different costs involved with taking care of a pig.

When children are done filling their egg, it will be weighed. Based on that weight, there will be a conversion sheet to determine how it would translate to a hog's market weight. Once their break even price is determined, they will drop a chip down a Plinko board to determine whether they break even, make money or lose money.

The activity involves prizes for those who take part in it and is geared toward kids ages 8 to 12. The Commodity Carnival will be located in the Junior Fair Building. It will be open Monday from 1 to 4 p.m., Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
