Hometown hero Neil Armstrong will soon be featured in the form of a massive mural in downtown Cincinnati.

The 7,632-square-foot mural will be located on the side of a building that is part of Fifth Third Bank’s headquarters at the corner of Sixth and Walnut streets downtown.

Artworks, a Cincinnati-based non-profit organization, is in charge the project and is partnering with Fifth Third Bank, who is fully funding the project. Artworks’ mission is to transform people and places in the Cincinnati area through works of creativity, namely through murals and sculptures erected throughout the city.

Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra, who has spawned artwork all over the world, will be creating the piece of art, along with help from his team and summer apprentices hired by Artworks.

Work on the mural will take place from Aug. 8-22, and Artworks’ Director of Communications Destinee Thomas said anyone will be able to watch its progress on a live stream, which will be available through artworkscincinnati.org starting Aug. 8. A special ceremony on Aug. 21 will see the completed mural officially introduced to the public and celebrated by its supporters.
